My First Glamping Experience at Lake Bastrop North Shore Park

When I think of camping, I think of “roughing it”. You know, hanging out in the middle of nowhere, in a tent that is supposed to serve as your home, heating up baked beans (and if you’re lucky you’ll get to toast some s’mores), and ending the night with the hopes that any wildlife in the area will allow you to rest in peace. I know this sounds horrible but it is my truth! It’s never been my thing…well, until now.

I had my very first glamping experience at Lake Bastrop North Shore Park! Located about 30 miles from Austin, Texas, the park recently rolled out their Airstream Glamping. For those that are new to the term “glamping”, here is a little 411. The name is derived from “glamorous camping” and is an upgraded camping experience focusing on luxe accommodations, amenities, and other convenient services you typically would not associate with traditional camping (say goodbye to those fireside beans).

Glamping has grown in popularity over the past few years and rightfully so. For those that love the outdoors but don’t want to deal with the hard work of pitching your own tent, this outdoor camping experience allows you to enjoy the beauty of nature and its many wonders in a wonderfully comfortable way.

Glamping accommodations come in all shapes, sizes, and forms. In the case of Lake Bastrop North Shore Park, they have five brand new top-of-the-line 25-foot Flying Cloud Airstreams and the Ladybird was all ours. The setup was just perfect and aside from bringing your own food and drinks, they had everything you would need.

I loved the spacious area that came along with our Airstream. A crushed granite terrace would outline our private space that came equipped with its very own fire pit, super cool bright yellow Adirondack chairs, and an outdoor gas grill that was simple enough for me to whip up a few hot dogs and sausages for dinner.

The temperature-controlled Airstream itself can sleep up to four people. It has a queen bed and two twins plus a private restroom with a shower, linens, towels, two TVs, DVD player, fridge, microwave, stovetop, cookware, dinnerware and a Keurig coffee maker. Yep, I think they have thought of everything!

Around the 182-acre park guests can swim, hike, mountain bike, picnic, fish, and kayak — every activity you would come to expect from the great outdoors. But if you are like me, you can just hang in/around your Airstream with a hot cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or cocktail and simply relax. Take in those alone moments of peace and tranquility and have some quiet time.

Another cool thing about the park and the Airstreams — you can rent one or all five! Enjoy a romantic weekend for two, or make it a party! The place really comes alive at night with the gorgeous hanging lights. Turn on the grills, get some drinks started, listen to some tunes, and you have the perfect backdrop for a gathering of friends and/or family.

Getting away to unplug and escape from the hustle and bustle of the everyday is a quick road trip away (for those that live in Texas). Airstream rentals are $225 per night, require a two-night minimum stay, a $225 deposit and do not permit pets inside the campers. Learn more about Lake Bastrop North Shore Park here.
