How do you reset every year and take a “break from the norm”? Is it a quick solo getaway, a full day at the spa, or simply scheduling in some “me time” at the end of your busy season? It’s no secret that we all need a mental break from time to time, but does that include a physical reset as well? Well, I have the perfect place in mind.
Since my initial stay at Deer Lake Lodge Resort & Spa (over 5 years ago), the permanent lifestyle changes still have a tremendous impact on my overall health. So when they invited me back, I was very excited to experience that same renewal all over again. For those who are new to this concept, let me take this time to share and provide a bit more insight into what Deer Lake Lodge is all about! To understand their goal is to understand their vision — To provide an immersive and relaxing experience combining physical movement with a cleanse protocol set in nature and away from the hustle and bustle of your every day.
“Into the forest I go…to lose my mind and find my soul.” – Deer Lake Lodge Resort & Spa
I call Deer Lake Lodge a “detox resort” because that is in essence what you are doing — detoxing. Alongside the daily life classes and spa treatments, you are cleansing from the inside-out. Whether you opt for a weekend or week-long stay, getting your digestive tract in order will be at the core of your transformation. You’ll start with a pre-detox prior to your arrival, move to an all-liquid program while on-site (yep, no solid foods), and break the fast for several days after your stay. Daily detox drinks and soup paired with a variety of proprietary blends, nutrient-rich supplements, natural extracts, and oils are included in your daily program.
Once you get passed the first day, your mental dependency on solid food will be reduced (along with the need to chew something). I quickly realized how much [food] I really needed on a daily basis and how amazing I felt as my body eliminated those lingering toxins. The cleanse protocol also comes with one or more colonics (Colon Hydrotherapy) depending on the length of your stay. This treatment gently rinses the colon with warm water removing the “stuff” that shall remain nameless 😉 ). A healthy life starts with a happy colon and if you’ve never had one, please read up on its benefits.
Life Enhancement Classes
Each day, the executive chef, April “Sweet Mama” Ree, and other specialists from the staff host classes that aid in your journey. From how to make “Love Juice” and eating raw with April to an overview of Iridology (also available as a private session) with Cheryl Lemoine Kainer, you will have all the tools you need to make the necessary tweaks after your stay is complete. In addition, each morning will kick off with a yoga session placing you in the right mindset to tackle the day ahead.
I would be remiss if I did not mention the amazing spa treatments at Deer Lake Lodge! In an effort to book any available time I had open (I’ll admit to not wanting a lot of idle time to think about food :)), I booked tons of spa treatments. On my first day, I enjoyed a Magnesium Wrap geared at sweating out toxins and eliminating aches and pains. This massage is also available as an infrared massage that allows for deeper penetration of the minerals. The next day I combined a Swedish Massage with a Lymphatic Massage. This will go down in history as one of the most amazing experiences ever. I left completely relaxed and as if every remnant of pain was now obsolete; bye-bye aching muscles! I would also highly recommend the Bamboo Massage where warm bamboo sticks are used for a deeper massage without excess pressure.
So what are the benefits of embarking on this wellness and detox journey? I’m so glad you asked. Here is what I know:
- You will experience some level of weight loss (who doesn’t want that!)
- Your body will repair itself while boosting your immune system
- You will reduce the amount of stress and learn ways to better deal with stress
- You will create new habits that will help introduce lifelong lifestyle changes
- You will look and feel great!
