Since I’ve been to Los Cabos many times (it is only a 2-hour flight from Houston), I’ve had my fair share of bad, good, and great hotel stays. I’ve even stayed on both “sides” of the city where memories of romantic weekends were spent in San Jose Del Cabo (or Old Town) or the always lively Cabo San Lucas for a girls getaway.
My last trip to Los Cabos would steer me in the direction of Cabo San Lucas to celebrate my bestie’s birthday. And Breathless Cabo San Lucas Resort & Spa would be the destination for our weekend festivities. This would be my first time here, but having stayed at several other properties managed by the AMR Resorts brand (Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita and the then Secrets Marquis Los Cabos), I didn’t think twice about making a reservation.
The resort is located on one of the best beaches in Los Cabos, Medano Beach, which is also one of the few swimmable beaches in the area.
Not only is it on the best beach, but it’s arguably in one of the best spots. An approximate 10 minute walk down the marina will place you smack dab in the middle of the nightlife and entertainment. You can arrive at other shops and restaurants in half that time.
In addition to its ideal location, all of the 169 suites at Breathless Cabo San Lucas have amazing ocean views – so you really can’t go wrong with any suite you choose. However, there are a few differences between the room category types that are worth pointing out.
There are two room categories, Allure and Xhale Club. Both offer a balcony or terrace, 24-hour room service, complimentary Wi-Fi, and unlimited access to the any of the 4 bars and 7 restaurants around the property. But the Xhale Club level offers a bit more. Your rooms are upgraded a bit (along with an upgraded mini-bar and room service menu), you have a VIP host and concierge service to take care of all your needs during your stay, access to a private lounge where snacks and special drinks are served throughout the day, and much more.
By the time we booked our reservation, the Xhale Club rooms were gone, but I didn’t feel like we missed out on much at all. Our Allure Suite was spacious and we really only spent time in the room to change clothes for the next outing and to sleep – it is Cabo San Lucas isn’t it?! One cool thing about the rooms was the tablet where you could digitally order room service (no calls required). You could even order drinks!
We spent most of our days at either Foam (near the main pool where most of the action was happening) or at Wink that was located near the main lobby and was a prime location for a more quiet poolside setting. The views there were stunning to say the least. Foam was the place to be and be seen and it went down every day with foam parties, live performances, and DJ’s mixin’ on the 1’s and 2’s.
As far as the restaurants are concerned, we didn’t have a bad meal. Aside from the slow service we had during dinner on one evening, the food quality and service were as I’ve come to expect from the brand. There was always a place to eat even if you preferred to relax all day at the pool. Miss breakfast? A poolside grill would open up right at the perfect time serving quick snacks, burgers, pizza, and all the other stuff you indulge in while on vacation.
During the evenings, when we didn’t go into town, we jammed to music and enjoyed a fun night of karaoke at Purple, the VIP Rooftop Lounge. The good time vibe was consistent throughout our stay from the staff to those visiting to celebrate birthdays, friendship, or just themselves.
We are already planning to return and maybe the fellas will get to join in on the excursion the next time around!
